LAVENDER STICKS OR BOTTLES

These were very popular in the Victorian era of almost one hundred years ago. Lavender sticks are made by taking twenty five or thirty lavender spikes when they are in full bloom. Lay them down on a flat surface, then push them so that the lavender heads are even. Allow eight inches of stem and cut the remainder off, being sure that each stalk is the same length. At the base of the flower heads or blooms where the bare stem begins, firmly tie it with a strong string. The loose flower heads are bent back over the stalk, and woven with a suitable ribbon material until the heads are completely covered. The base of the stems are tightly woven to prevent them from fraying or breaking.
