QUESTION
OF THE WEEK
Among your
choices Pentas are colorful and is one of the favorite
nectar sources for many species of butterflies. Pentas
are good container plants and tolerate some shade. They
require more water than the other plants but are worth
it if butterflies are your goal.

The cactus
flowers, like this one blooming at Milberger's Nursery,
are usually conspicuous, and are so different from those
of all other plant families that the cacti are unique
and alone, without obvious relationship to other plants.

Cactus.
By Dr. Jerry Parsons. Cacti
are a group of plants that are not only easy to grow,
but offer a variety of shapes, color and form. They can
be grown in any sunny, well-drained area. They require
little maintenance. They make excellent houseplants and
many hardy varieties may be grown outside. Some cactus
and succulent types can be used as pot plants. These include
Aloe Vera, crassulas, Echeverias, peperomias and kalanchoe.

Esperanza
is also called Texas Bells. The blooms are bright yellow
and look like miniature bells (1/2 dollar size). The
foliage is light green. Most winters esperanza freezes
back to the ground. If the weather is mild and they
do not freeze back the plant eventually makes a small
tree.

Hot Weather All Stars.
Br. Dr. Calvin Finch. The hot weather cuts down
the gardening opportunities, but there are some all star
performers that will do their best show during the blistering
heat. They are blooming in area landscapes and can also
be planted at this time of the year. Consider esperanza,
poinciana, firebush and rock rose for summer blooms.
