To avoid too much fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol:

  • Choose lean meat, fish, poultry, and dry beans and peas as protein sources.
  • Use skim milk or low fat milk products.
  • Moderate your use of egg yolks and organ meats.
  • Limit your intake of fats and oils, especially those high in saturated fat, such as butter, cream, lard, heavily hydrogenated fats (some margarines) shortenings, and foods containing palm and coconut oils.
  • Trim fat off meats.
  • Broil, bake, or boil rather than fry. Moderate your use of foods that contain fat, such as breaded and deep fried foods.

  • Read labels carefully to determine both amount and type of fat present in foods.

 

Para evitar el exceso de grasa, grasa saturada y cholesterol:

  • Escoja carnes sin grasa, pescado, aves, frijoles y chicharos o guisantes para obtener proteinas.
  • Consuma leche descremada o con poca grasa y productos lácteos.
  • Modere su consumo de yema de huevos y vísceras.
  • Limite su consumo de grasas y aceites, especialmente aquellos con alto contenido de grasas saturadas, como mantequilla, crema, manteca de cerdo, grasas muy hidrogenadas (algunas margarinas) y alimentos que contengan aceite de palma y de coco.
  • Corte el exceso de grasa de las carnes.
  • Ase, hornee o hierva en vez de freír.
  • Modere el consumo de alimentos que contengan grasa, tales como alimentos empanados y fritos.
  • Lea cuidadosamente las etiquetas de los alimentos para saber el tipo de grasa que contienen.
