Question: I hope you can give me some information on this
flower that I call an antique poinsettia. The foliage is very
much like a poinsettia but not exact - the red color is on only
part of a leaf. Most of the plants are 2 to 3 ft tall. They are
growing on the southeast side of the house. They are self seeding.
And most of all the grasshoppers do not eat them!! It just appeared
in my flower bed and quickly took over. The little seed pod pops
open and seeds fly all over. We live in Karnes County in Gillett,
Texas. I am sending pictures of these plants for you to look at.
They are not a nuisance and I do enjoy them...would just like
to know more about them.
Answer: The plant is the native Texas Poinsettia (Euphorbia
cyathophora).
