Everett E. Janne

Everett Janne died on November 12, 1997, in College Station after a lengthy illness. A memorial service was held on November 15 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in College Station, TX. Burial was at the College Station Cemetery. He is fondly remembered for a long and productive career as an Extension Horticulturist for Texas A & M University. Everett retired from the Texas Cooperative Extension as a Landscape Horticultural Specialist in 1984. During his tenure with Texas A & M, Everett worked closely with Texas Garden Clubs, Inc., the Texas Association of Nurserymen and other organizations to help coordinate educational programs that benefitted Texas gardeners. He was also a popular instructor for the Landscape Design Study Course Program for many years.

Everett was born February 10, 1922 on a farm near Dorrance, Kansas. He was a veteran of both World War II and Korea. Everett graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Design in 1947. In 1949 he received a Master of Science degree in Landscape Horticulture from Ohio State University. Prior to his work with the Texas Cooperative Extension he worked with the rose industry in Tyler, Texas.

Everett is survived by his wife LaVerne and two sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Chris Janne of Paducah, Kentucky and Rex and Anna Janne of College Station, one grandson Matt, and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Doris Janne of Wichita, Kansas and Keith and Vivian Janne of Lenexa, Kansas.

Everett was an avid gardener at home as well as professionally. He enjoyed traveling and photography and is remembered fondly for all the effort he put into planning the family trips. He was also an excellent repair man, able to fix almost any broken toy or tool. He dabbled with water colors and wood working and loved to assist his sons with their school projects when they were younger. Everett will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, the sparkle in his eye when he was kidding someone, especially children, his gentleness, his ability to relate to people, especially his sons and younger people, his quiet sense of beauty and his love for his family, friends and church.

Everett and LaVerne have both been active members in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in College Station for many years where Everett served as Church Council President, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, an usher, Ministry Committee Chairperson and regularly worked with the Property Committee on the church grounds. The family has asked that those wishing to do so send memorials to their church.
