The Gardening South Texas Bird-a-thon
Team
A Bird-a-thon is like a walk-a-thon or a bike-a-thon, but instead
of miles you count bird species. You may not believe it, but the
team of Milton Glueck, Jerry Parsons, Calvin Finch, and Jane Turner
Davis have participated in the Mitchell Lake Audubon Center Bird-a-thon
for the last three years. What's more, they have been the top
or second most successful fund raising team each of those years!
Here is how it works. You commit .10, .25, a dollar, or whatever
suits you per bird species and the fearless foursome go out to
Mitchell Lake on the morning of May 3, to identify as many bird
species as they can. In 2007, they spotted 81 species. That means
that if you pledged .25 per species you would end up donating
$20.25 in 2007. Lyn Parsons a listener from Ohio initiated the
commitments in 2008 by pledging $5 per bird!
The money goes to support Audubon Center habitat development
and educational program efforts. To sign up and make your pledge,
visit Milberger's and seek out one of the posted sign-up sheets.
You can also call the Gardening South Texas radio show between
noon and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday or Sunday at 308-8867 or 1-866-308-8867.
As an added incentive Milberger's in past years has matched all
the pledges made by its customers and listeners to the Gardening
South Texas radio show. Make your pledge and encourage them (Milberger's)
to match the pledges again this year.
Join the Gardening South Texas team and support a good cause
by making your pledge this weekend. |
