Chili con Carne
(Vermicelli with Meat)

 

12 servings: 1 cup per serving

Diabetic Exchanges: 3 Meat, Medium Fat, &1 Starch/Bread

 

3 pounds ground or cubed beef   1-tablespoon salt
2 garlic cloves, minced   1 quart canned tomatoes, strained
1/4 cup chopped onion   1 teaspoon comino powder or 1/2 teaspoon comino seed, mashed
1/4-cup chili powder   6 cups pinto beans, cooked

 

Cook meat, garlic, onion, chili powder, salt, comino, and tomatoes. Drain excess fat. Add beans to meat and blend. Add 1 cup water, cover, and simmer or 30 minutes.
