Flowering fruit trees (pear) in Late Fall (October) and Winter

Question:
We have a Bradford pear tree in our front yard which normally blooms in the spring but it is now in full bloom in October, 2009!!! What is causing this?

Answer:
Ornamental and fruit trees are blooming profusely NOW in late fall--it is not the first time following a hot, dry summer that this has occurred. This image was taken on September 26, 2006, in the Stone Oak area of San Antonio, Texas.
